Those Swirly Things...

You know when you look at bouquets, and you always see those swirly things in them...well I did a bit of digging... and I FOUND OUT WHAT THEY ARE!!!

The official term for them is called "Araucaria Arancana" or Monkey Tail in the US.   They are found in a tree in southern Chile, western Argentina, and southern Brazil.  They are sometimes known as a living fossil (talk about ironic) and this type of tree is known as the national tree of Chile.

The Monkey Tail is literally a branch found on the tree, but must be conserved because they are considered at Vulnerable status on the conservation status chart.  This means that if not cultivated and preserved, they might die out, and then we won't have them :(

For now, I will leave you with some pretty bouquets with the monkey tails!!!

Lastly... because the Olympics are starting this evening, I must go for now...

GO TEAM USA!!!!
